Windnavigator is a web platform that allows you to view and access UL’s high-resolution wind resource maps and data anywhere you have an Internet connection. Whether you are prospecting for greenfield sites, identifying locations for a wind monitoring campaign, or surveying competing projects, Windnavigator can provide the solution you need.
Through Windnavigator you can
- Browse global, high-resolution (200 m) resource maps in a Google Maps™ environment
- Query mean wind speeds at custom heights (10 m to 140 m) by clicking on the map or entering coordinates
- View wind statistics including Weibull values, wind roses, and monthly and diurnal distributions
- Obtain virtual met masts (VMMs) and wind resource grids (WRGs)
- Download summary reports
High-resolution data at your fingertips
In Windnavigator, we put our expertise in atmospheric modeling and experience in wind resource assessment at your fingertips. All of the products available through Windnavigator are derived from simulations of historical atmospheric conditions performed by a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model. The results of the simulations drive a microscale model sensitive to the local influences of terrain and surface conditions. Finally, the model output is fine-tuned using available high-quality wind measurements. Our approach has been thoroughly validated, and uncertainty statistics are available.
